Q: Let’s get to it, what’s your business’ specialty?
A: Mini Memo Co specializes in wedding signage, including, but not limited to, welcome signs, place cards, table numbers, seating charts, bar menus, whatever a bride can think of! We also offer envelope addressing, which adds a personal touch to invitations, save the dates, and thank you cards.
Q: Where can we find you?
A: You can find me on my website at www.minimemoco.com. I currently live in Minnetonka and run my business out of my home.
Q: Tell us when and how Mini Memo Co began.
A: I started my business in the summer of 2019. I took up hand lettering as a hobby at the beginning of 2019 and knew right away I wanted to grow and share my passion with others.
Q: What makes your company unique from others?
A: First off, I’m local. Instead of ordering something online, you know you are helping a local small business. Second, everything I create is done by hand. This means that you are getting a one-of-a-kind piece every time, not another piece copied from a laser engraver.
Q: How long have you been in the industry? What do you think has changed the most since then?
A: I have only been in the industry for about a year (a crazy one at that). The largest change that has occurred has definitely been this pandemic and seeing so many wonderful couples have to postpone their big day. As heartbreaking as it is, this pandemic will pass. But for those that I already had orders placed and delivered, I am working with changing dates on already completed projects to reflect their new date.
Q: Walk us through your average day.
A: At my day job, I work as a transportation engineer for Hennepin County. Most of my day consists of making plans for the roads to be fixed. But then I get to go home to my incredible husband, Andrew. I will check emails, communicate with clients, and work on any outstanding orders. Depending on the night I either have Bible study or will go on a walk.
Q: What would you want couples searching for your business type to know?
A: Your wedding day should be just as unique as your relationship. My goal is to reflect that through my work.
Q: How far in advance should a couple book with you?
A: This depends on which service they are looking for, and how big of an order. Wedding sign orders should be placed no later a month before your wedding to ensure availability, but I will always try to accommodate every bride. Envelope addressing should be placed 6 weeks before the desired mail out date.
Q: What’s one wedding trend you’re over?
A: Smashing cake in each other’s faces…no one pays that much money to have their makeup done for it to be covered in cake.
Q: What’s your signature style?
A: I only do modern calligraphy; there is more freedom to be creative. Traditional calligraphy has a lot of rules.
Q: What trends in stationery/calligraphy are popular with couples at the moment? What trends will we see more of this year?
A: Wood signs will always be classic. Acrylic signs are increasing in popularity and will only become more prominent because of the simple and elegant look.
LIGHTNING ROUND!
Q: What show are you binging right now?
A: The Office…always
Q: You’re in charge of the lineup for your dream concert. Who are your headliners?
A: Ben Rector, Mat Kearny, and Andy Mineo.
Q: Gold or Silver?
A: Silver
Q: Black Tie or Casual?
A: Casual
Q: You’re at brunch. Are you going for something sweet or savory?
A: Sweet
Q: Favorite board game?
A: Cribbage
Q: Do you have any favorite podcasts?
A: “The Real Life Podcast” by Jefferson & Alyssa Bethke and “The She Podcast” by Jordan Lee Dooley
Q: Mountains or Beach?
A: Beach
Q: Who would you like to sit next to on a plane?
A: Christine Caine; she leads a global anti-sex trafficking organization and has so much wisdom. She is a powerhouse of a woman and I would ask questions the entire flight.
