It’s that time of year where so many “Will Yous” end with an excited “YES”! As rings go on fingers, we thought we’d give some helpful information about buying, caring for, and overall knowing gemstones.
This is extremely important from the buyer’s perspective since there’s a huge range in the price of gemstones depending on their quality and the treatments applied to them. A 1-carat gemstone can sell for anywhere from $5 to $50,000! So, it’s necessary for the buyer to be aware of the treatments applied that can significantly alter the gemstone’s value, making it the difference between a priceless heirloom and a worthless commodity.
There are some industry-accepted treatments for gemstones that are used to “clean” the stone and enhance its value, whereas other non-accepted treatments inject foreign substances into the gemstone, rendering its value worthless despite enhancing the overall look.
Here are some helpful infographics detailing the treatments from Diamondere.
