We already know how difficult wedding planning can be. It’s exhausting sometimes! From booking your venue to finding the perfect dress, there’s some tough decisions to be made; including deciding on a theme for your wedding. Is a theme for you, or is a traditional wedding the way to go? We’ve gathered some information that may help you make this decision.
How much do you love it?
Whatever theme you’re thinking about, how much do you love it? Enough to make it the central focus point on your big day or to have in all of your pictures? You might want to think seriously about this so you don’t regret it later. If you love it, consider it!
Does your partner love it just as much?
But keep in mind — does your partner love it just as much? Your day is about marrying the love of your life and sharing that day with all of your family and friends. You want your day to represent the both of you, so if your partner isn’t loving it, ditch it. On the other hand, if they are fully supportive it might be a great idea for your day.
How theme-y will you go?
Just how “theme-y” do you want to go? We don’t recommend “going all out.” We don’t want it to be so distracting and overboard that people forget why they are there– for you! After all, it is your day and a day to celebrate the happy couple. Just a little too theme-y could feel more like a holiday party than a wedding.
Will you regret the theme later?
Back to the first question. How much do you actually love it? We don’t want you to look back on the pictures and regret it. Will you understand why you chose that theme 10 years from now? Even if it is trendy- make sure it still has a timeless feel.
“Traditional Weddings Can be Boring”
If you agree with this statement and want to do something different, then yes — consider a theme! Like we said previously it doesn’t have to be over-the-top, but you can incorporate some of your favorites.
A Traditional Wedding Looks Like You
When you look back on your wedding day, you look like you. You don’t have some wild make-up or hairpieces on your head. There’s no accessory surrounding you that you don’t like anymore. You just look like a younger version of yourself. It’s the feeling you get when you look back on your parent’s or grandparents’ wedding photos. That’s how you feel about yours. Then yes, a traditional non-themed wedding is for you.
These are all questions that you should consider if you’re thinking about a theme wedding. Our advice to you is, if you really do love the theme and so does your partner then go for it! If it relates to your love story, tie it into your big day! If you feel like you’re pushing it on your partner, forget it. If you are worried it might be too trendy and will regret it in a couple of years, go more towards classic. Remember that you can incorporate themes into your wedding without going overboard. If you want to incorporate say “pumpkins” into you’re wedding day– you can do that without that being the focal point of your day.
