Choosing a videographer to capture the most intimate and memorable moments of your big day is an important decision. One of the most important things to keep in mind when selecting a videographer is how their personality will mesh with you on your big day. When it comes to Narrate Studios you are in good hands, with a mentality of “work hard, play hard, love what you do” you are sure to have an incredible and memorable time filming your wedding! For this week’s V-O-W we spoke with Jordan, owner of Narrate Studios to get the scoop on what you should know about wedding cinematography! You can speak with experts from Narrate for yourself on Sunday, February 5th at UNVEILED!
Q: What does Narrate Studios specialize in?
A: Creating exceptional, cinematic wedding films that focus on the couple’s own unique story.
Q: What makes Narrate Studios stand out in terms of wedding videography options couples have in the Twin Cities area?
A: Because we put the focus on storytelling and really invest in understanding the couple and what they want from their wedding film, we think that results in a video that feels individualized and authentic—anything but cookie-cutter.
Q: When and how did Narrate Studios begin?
A: We started out as filmmakers, who loved video and thought outside the box. In 2011, we started shooting weddings because we enjoyed the whole process and thought we could provide a new take on wedding video that wasn’t really being done by others.
Q: Tell us a little bit about the Narrate team:
A: We are a very close, creative, and fun team. We have all known each other much longer than we have worked together. We work hard, we play hard, and we love what we do.
Q: How are you able to show the personality and love between the couple through video?
A: We get to know each couple before the big day. We listen a ton and really dig in to what they’re looking for. We get creative, and we capture those special moments that might get missed in the busyness of the day.
Q: What do couples need to do if they want their big day captured on video? Is there anything they can do to ensure their wedding video will capture the feeling and emotion of the big day?
A: We want couples to share with us what their love story means to them. Often that comes in the form of a meaningful phrase, or a memory, or different traditions that they love. The more our couples share their story with us, the more we can incorporate those elements into their wedding film. We also like when couples share other videos that they have loved, so we can get an idea of the style they gravitate toward.
Q: What do you love about working in the wedding industry, specifically videography?
A: Even though I’ve attended countless weddings at this point, I’ve still been known to get a little teary-eyed at times. Weddings are such a privilege to be a part of, and I love meeting couples and getting to see their story come to life on film. Also, destination weddings are one of my favorite things; we’ve been all over the world with amazing couples, and it doesn’t get much better than that.
Q: What’s an average (wedding) day at like with Narrate Studios?
A: We arrive on site with plenty of gear, and we check in with our point of contact (either the couple or the coordinator). Things usually kick off with some “getting ready” shots in separate locations, and then either the ceremony or the couple’s styled shots. Before the ceremony, we hook up our audio equipment so we capture the audio for the vows. Basically, we’re there in the action of the day, but we’re also careful to make sure that we blend in, so the couple’s focus is on their experience and not on us. In between all of these, we’re always capturing a lot of b-roll, so the film feels like you’re back on that day, taking in the details.
Q: What would you want a couple in the wedding planning process to know about choosing the perfect Wedding Videographer?
A: Choose a wedding videographer that really “gets” you. Your wedding video will be something that you’ll watch years into the future, so you want it to be authentic and timeless.
Q: Have you captured any unique weddings that stand out?
A: Some of the destination weddings that we’ve done really stand out. But overall, every wedding is unique and we love them all.
Q: Anything else you want couples to know about Narrate Studios or about capturing their big day on camera?
A: Your wedding day is hands-down one of the best days of your life. And when couples are really able to take that in, absorb it, and be present in the moment, it comes across in the film. So just be you, celebrate your love, and soak it all up.
Q: What advice would you give to an engaged couple?
A: Don’t sweat the small stuff and keep the focus on what’s important. It’s about the two of you.
Lightning Round!
Q: Describe yourself in three words:
A: Fun, futuristic, and strategic
Q: Red or White?
A: White
Q: Black tie or Farm to Table?
A: Farm to table
Q: Chocolate or Vanilla?
A: Chocolate
Q: Sweet or salty?
A: Salty
Q: Last book you read?
A: Strengths-Based Leadership
Q: Fall, Winter, Spring or Summer?
A: Summer
Q: If you had a time machine, would you go back in time or visit the future?
A: Future, hands-down
Q: If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
A: I’m a big Beatles fan, so Something by Paul McCartney.
