Back from New York Couture Bridal Market Fashion Week, the bridal fashion designers are already fast tracking the Spring 2016 wedding collections. While wedding gown styles might not change all that drastically from one season to the next, there still are standout trends; details and interesting changes to take a sneak peek at. As last season’s crop top has become the Ghost of Seasons Past, here are highlights and our picks for Spring 2016:
Tradition
As we mentioned last fall, TRADITION is back and yes part of this harkens to the 1980’s with long sleeves, ball gowns and designers continued fascination with lace since the Royal Wedding of 2011. Next season’s trends have an extra layer of tulle, lace or organza to give the dress a ball gown feel, but with a slimming effect of a streamlined minimalist column or slinky slip silhouette mini-underneath. Sheer, naked-looking illusion sleeves allowed for the impression of full-coverage, while accents like lace, sparkly sequins, intricate beading and embroidery can add visual interest or tattooing of the sleeves. Watch for traditional aspect like long detachable trains; overskirts and matching laced edged cathedral veils in 2016.

Sexy Backs and Plunging Necklines
A carry over from last season has reached new depths of exposure plunging even further in 2016. Deep plunging necklines are not the only design that is hot off the runway. You can also count on the deep plunging backs for the bride that is willing to venture into something more daring.
Look for illusion panels, tasteful lace cutouts and sneak-a-peak lace designs. Appliques of lace are strategic for these more daring looks. Designers are also enhancing the look of the plunging back with details like criss-cross lines of string or jewelry strands. Does this feel like the 80’s reinvented for 2016?

Brush of Pastels
Soft colors of blush, yellow, mint green and light blue seem to be in every collection and another option for the bride looking for something that stands out from the myriad of ivory shades. We now see the designer’s brush stroke of pretty watercolors offering a striking alternative for the 2016 season.
All as beautiful as a Monet painting gracing the wedding aisle. Usually utilized with chiffon and organza, the flow of the fabric engages you in the dream of the water-color.

Trousers
Each season designers dare to push the limits and see were things can possibly go. Don’t think of a suit – you know slacks, jacket and tie, but there can be something about wearing a pair of well-tailored chic trousers that gives a bride an air of sophistication. The white tuxedo suit can be just as chic, formal and impactful as a ball gown, and some designers got even more creative with the silhouette offering a strapless chiffon-topped jumpsuit and metallic lace.

Details
It’s all in the details and the 2016 Spring Season is full on. From what is now called tattooing to intricate beading, crystals and pearls, the bodices are becoming more elaborate. Hours of painstakingly hand beading within delicate patterns has become intense to say the least. When talking to designers they tell you stories about over 600 hours of beading and detailing on the most intricate dresses. Design patterns so complicated they can make you dizzy to work on them.
