These delectable treats date back to the 16th century, but their origins are somewhat obscure. The name of the cookie comes from an Italian word meaning paste, maccarone and it is believed the first version of the macaroon was developed in an Italian monastery.
Add to this another popular Italian treat, Gelato, and you have a perfect pair. Gelato is similar to ice cream but has less butterfat and a little less sugar. In Italian, gelato translates to frozen, making it a common misconception that this delicious concoction contains gelatin.
Recently, while enjoying dinner at D’Amico Kitchen in Minneapolis, we ordered a trio of macaroons. We loved the look and though what a perfect dessert option for those couples not intent on the traditional wedding cake. After gobbling these wonderful treats (and snapping a quick photo for you) we decided to also order the trio of Gelati, as another version of a beautiful wedding dessert option and snapped another picture!
What’s fun about both options is that depending on flavors selected you can work with your color palette creating just the right look for your wedding.
